The "core" Hindu Right (which is most bothered with stuff like minority appeasement) voted for BJP even in the dark days of 2009
The "incremental" vote that Modi got in 2014/2019 is mostly non-Core
And taken in by Modi's charisma, his work ethic, and his probity / clean image
Much of the female support for Modi also is driven by these reasons
It has little to do with Hindu nationalism
But the "core" am sure voted for Advani's BJP (notwithstanding the Pakistan-Jinnah fiasco) even in 2009
So Modi owes his power not as much to the "core" as he does for the young upwardly mobile, mostly non-ideological voters of urban/semi-urban India
But he didn't bring them into the fold
They have been in the fold for a v v long time. At least since Ayodhya
