People in my TL arguing that diplomats should disobey the President's lawful orders about rainbow flaw - odious, but lawful - are the foundation for every argument that @JayCaruso and others have made that liberals will be no more respecting of the rule of law than Trump is. /1
If you think it's okay for diplomats to buck State over something they were advised about earlier in the year, you're no better than the "by any means necessary" culture warriors of the right. You protect the rule of law by - wait for it - observing the rule of law. /2
I think Pompeo is wrong and it's craptacular policy. But the President was elected, he gets to pick a Cabinet, those Cabinet officials get to run their department. This policy is not illegal. Stupid and offensive, but not illegal. /3
And when the day comes when some highly religious ambassador decides to defy President Harris or President Buttigieg or whoever because it's "their principles," you'd better be ready to go to the mat for that person's right to tell a Democratic President to pound sand. /4x
