I'm driving across the USA, from New York City to Los Angeles. I'm going alone, it's something I've always wanted to do. also, I needed to get the Tesla to LA and didn't want to ship it. This thread will document the journey - this is mile 1.

makes me a little teary eyed.

Open highway, not a lot of traffic. Switched driver profile into 'Casey relax mode'
**Sleep mode is NOT USED WHILE DRIVING** only while waiting for the car to charge. Shoulda been more clear in previous tweet

this is Dr. Horne. We met at a supercharger in Somerset PA. He drives a first generation Model S that has 165k miles on it. He was very happy to give me a tour of the vintage car

found an old fruit snacks on the floor. My kiddo must have dropped it here sometime in the last year or so. it's hard as stone, not gonna eat it.
I ate it
realized I was wasting valuable rest time while charging the car so I bought a pillow and an adorable panda bear blanket from Dollar general.

it's the car I imagined when I was a kid. you just get in and tell it where to drive you... and it plays video games.

cop said 'never seen one of these cars before!' he asked me a dozen questions about the Telsa then sent me on my way. honestly, I appreciated the human interaction

keeping the electric skateboard in the trunk means I get to explore the areas where the super chargers are.
then you have to charge the skate board. My preferred method is walking into the nearest hotel and acting like I belong

crossed into Utah before midnight
late night solitude.
last night's overnight supercharger was in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn Express but, again, that hotel had no vacancies so I stayed at this little gem I found across the street.
old cigarettes and sweet perfumy air freshener. it smells like a very old aunt's house - she still smokes and is oblivious to the smell, no one knows how she's still alive. picture ms Havisham. Ms Havisham if she lived in a motel 8. 🛌 at 3:56am

road trip is over. some thoughts on the journey..
doing things alone is super underrated. don't wait to find the perfect partner, experiencing something great by yourself has its own virtues
don't speed 🚔
my favorite times were when I was driving.
on a average I had to stop for supercharging ever 2-3 hours and a charge took 20-40min. I never minded, breaks felt appropriate. I never had trouble finding a supercharger but I also never really stopped thinking about the charging process, it was a big focus of the trip
I used autopilot 99% of the drive. I would go over 100 miles and over an hour of driving without providing any input to the car. no steering, no breaking no accelerating - just autopilot. it's way better than it gets credit for.
this article is NOT about me - nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Sle…
there was 1 night where the hotel I planned to stay in didn't have a room for me so I drove 2 hours to the next hotel. I should not have been driving so late but I did and I dozed off. not sure how long I was asleep but the autopilot alarm woke me up. very scary.
ive flown NYC - LA many times but this drive made me appreciate just how far apart these cities are.
ok a final punctuation to end this thread. The car in it's new garage, about 3,000 miles from it's previous one. great trip 👍
