We lost @SimonMaloy today. He was brilliant, and kind, and the funniest person on this website. I can’t capture what he meant to us as a beloved colleague and friend. He first joined @mmfa in 2014 as an intern, and some of us have worked with him for more than a decade.

The usual vault rules apply: YMMV, my way is not the only way, everyone's situation and journey are different. This advice is meant for new and first-time writers aiming for traditional publishing.
1. 1st, permission: You don't have to tell ANYBODY that you want to write a book. Yeah, science says that part of goal setting is to engage fam and friends to make yourself accountable, but... you do you. I kept my writing a secret from all but my husband until I had a 1st draft.

Today’s a pretty special day to me, and it’s special because of a really good friend. He’s called @Daniel_Barker: it’s his birthday today, and it *still* feels odd to type his twitter handle because of what happened on this day four years ago.
In 2015, @Daniel_Barker made a joke tweet about how not enough people were wishing him a happy birthday. Daniel is a very sensitive, self-critical fellow, so this tweet was adorably out of character:
At the time I was quite depressed, and really not doing well at all. But I saw this tweet of @Daniel_Barker’s, and decided to do some weird happy birthday tweets at him. He was a funny guy I had met once or twice, and it seemed reasonable. It gave me a little spark of joy.

#LainaReadsAnne It's now the next day, and Marilla still hasn't told Anne she's staying. She's not really sure why. Maybe she's nervous, even.

She has been having Anne do chores all morning though - not to the extant of the other people she lived with. Just normal chores.
#LainaReadsAnne Like, Anne's 11 and she's just moved to a farm. A certain amount of work was expected of children that age back then, and really should be of most kids now, and she's not raising peoples' children or anything.

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether
