I really don’t enjoy matches that are just goal galore against an underdog. There is no joy or beauty or anything to be gained #USATHA #FIFAWWC
That was a horrible display - absolutely no reason for players of such stature in #USWNT to be acting like that over 9th, 10th, 11th goal. And I say that as a feminist who says YES YOU DESERVE ATTENTION YES BE BOLD AND HAVE EGO. Come on. That was awful. #USATHA #FIFAWWC
And thing is the #USWNT is fighting for equal pay & resources with their country’s men’s team. And for inequalities at play there, same & more exist with #THA vs #USA. If US women’s team are denied equal pay & resources, imagine the obstacles that Thai women’s team fave #FIFAWWC
US teams are utterly oblivious to how the rest of the world sees them and why so many people around the world root against them. That match just now was a reminder #USATHA #FIFAWWC
And I would say exactly same thing if it was #US men’s team. If US women’s team are denied equal pay & resources, imagine the obstacles that Thai women’s team face. What’s to celebrate after 10 goals? You don’t need 13 goals to qualify to next round #FIFAWWC

I love football. I love the World Cup. It is really important for me to watch & rave about the Women’s World Cup. I went to 2015 World Cup quarter & semi finals in Canada. I HATE telling women to be humble/shrink/hide their strength. HATE IT. But celebrating 13 goals! #FIFAWWC
AND! I am not telling women to shrink themselves relative to men; or to be humble in front of patriarchy. I am saying US women’s team was playing vs women - Thai team - who have even less resources than US women have. This US women’s team is fighting for equal pay & resources.
We known the US women’s team are world champions. And yet they are still fighting for equal pay and resources. Because that’s how fucked up it is for women athletes. That’s patriarchy. Fuck that patriarchy and NEVER shrink before that patriarchy. But celebrating 13 goals like that?
My new book out in Sept via @BeaconPressBks - The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls. Attention-seeking and Ambition and Power are 3 of those “sins” that women & girls are told not to “commit.” In my book I insist we own those sins. Today’s celebrations are something else.
And I know how goal difference works - I’ve been watching football since 1976, thank you -and I know bec I have said 👆🏽that #US women’s team are fighting US soccer federation for equal pay & resources.Celebrating 13 goals vs #THA like it’s some kind of achievement is empty & ugly
And celebrating 13 goals against an opponent that has even fewer resources than you as you’re fighting for equal resources with the men of your country? Well, that’s why we keep saying feminism is more than fighting just misogyny. That’s a luxury only rich white can afford.
I fight misogyny and so much more, as I explain here in my most recent essay. Meanwhile - KEEP WATCHING THE WORLD CUP google.com/amp/s/www.nyti… #FIFAWWC
And to the men whining “Oh my god you’re promoting your book!” Ha! I will always promote my book. You think I wrote 65k words so that no one reads them?Fuck you and fuck the patriarchy. Buy my fucking book! All that I say above is explained in greater depth
1. Men: are mansplaining football and goal differential to me
2. Men: “What kind of feminist tells women to shrink themselves?”
3. Men: “Oh my god you’re promoting your book! Shut up!” i.e. shrink yourself
