One the subject of diffusion, chasms and mapping. Please note, a virus diffuses but it also evolves. Diffusion and evolution are not the same but related i.e. the evolution of a single thing has many chasms and many waves of diffusion. 
... three of those many chasms are particularly large. For over a decade, I've referred to them as inertia barriers and it's related to a state change and a change of characteristics as the act evolves.
... in particular, invested capital (n.b. capital comes in many forms) reinforces that inertia. Which is why, way back when, we needed to use a system of theft in the Pioneer - Settler - Town planner org structure.

You can also mix and match the labels i.e. I you can use the following axis to examine / map legal, ethical and political concepts
So, with my Tea Shop example, we could just use the "ethics" axis and add in a whole bunch of other comments on the landscape like ethical trade ...
... in practice, I just use the standard labels. With a map of course, you can discuss the changing capital, flow of capital and basically bring an entire business from Finance, HR, IT, Sales and Ops to discuss a single space and our "intent" aka as no more "alignment" issues ...
The best bit of course, is you can then go and review the maps as time progresses. It's how we learn patterns which is something I've never done from SWOTS, Business Cases and all the usual paraphernalia of "strategy"

Me : Time is simply represented by the changing of the landscape, it is not part of the map. There are all sorts of patterns we can use to anticipate change but there's no crystal ball.
