Build your CV: it helps as you are requesting letters from mentors, or basically any email you're sending. Have a clear CV that speaks of your accomplishments. Do not miss a certificate or work in progress. Here is a link to how to do a cover letter.
Before programs see your application & statement letter, look at it yourself. Know your goals, or at least outlines of your goals. Know your weaknesses and SHOW that you are working on them. Practice your ONE LINER. This will improve your statement letter and application.
Improve your English proficiency before you hit the States. It will help you during the interview season and remove a hurdle from the first months in residency. Practice on medical rounds, read articles (and books) and watch American comedy to know pop culture references.
You must take Step 2 CS by December 31, 2019. If you do not register now and schedule soon, it is possible that you will not be able to obtain a test date in 2019. This is probably the most fun test to take but takes a serious month of studying and has to be done in USA @ECFMG

Improve your professional skills: it takes a smile, being on time, correct dress code or a collegial spirit to make you memorable. Learn about comments and attitudes that sound “culturally incompetent” or “emotionally unintelligent”. Start honing in on what these terms mean.
Improve your presentation skills: First a one-liner. Then HPI, then ROS, vitals, PE, labs, assessment, keep it clear. Sounds simple on paper, but still takes practice. And in English! Start at your medical school today.
Budget your upcoming application and travel expenses: it took me 2500$ to apply to 99 programs in internal medicine. About 7000$ to fly to 13 of them, 8000$ for 3 months of electives. Applying for VISA alone can have its toll too. Sometimes, you can find grants for these things.
Start making (or strengthening) your connections: who you know and what they know of you matters. Use all your contacts and #medtwitter if possible, but be professional and conscious of people's time, and thank them whether they help or don’t.
Family appreciation: I cannot stress this enough. You are leaving one life behind for another. Enjoy every moment you have with your loved ones, share warm hugs and have a merry feast. Some of them you won’t see for a year, others you won’t see anymore. Cherish these moments!
