In recent years have started to question the traditional approach to #narrativemedicine. Who owns a story? What lens is applied? I get it is seen as important for “joy of practice” to tell these stories as doctors. Except, these are actual lives and bodies of human beings.
As in, I don’t know the right answer but I also don’t think we are asking enough questions of ourselves, our profession, our peers, our professors/attendings.

Ours is a profession that labels
>age 35 as “geriatric pregnancy” after all

Women & girls in US #prisons & #jails are provided a limited number of tampons or pads monthly. The quality is so poor, women end up making their own, since products in commissaries are priced above retail & people in prison earn an average $1/day. >thread motherjones.com/crime-justice/…
AZ charges prisoners $4 to see a doctor & requires women get a dr's note before providing them more than the basic limit of pads or tampons.

NC prisoners pay $5 to see the nurse before getting approval to see the doctor for $5 more.

Prisoners earn an average $1/day.
“When I’m making 9 cents [an hour] after tax, you really got to think if I want to put my whole month’s income into hopefully being approved for extra pads, if they believe I deserve them,” Adrienne Kitcheyan told AZ lawmakers (Mother Jones 2/2019).

Umbereen S Nehal MD MPH: who is this person? Several people have been asking

A thread

Where am I from? Hooboy.
Let’s say, citizen of the world, human ping pong ball. Third culture kid. Genetic mutt

Born: 🇺🇸
🇵🇰 parents - when my parents born colonial rule, pre-Pakistan
To thoroughly annoy my Twitter bestie, @DrvanTilburg

Am an ENFP - a cross between Snoopy, Robin Willians, Ellen Degeneres, Dr. Seuss, Charles Dickens, Upton Sinclair

I border on ENTP - love new info and love to challenge in order to break through barriers or limitations
My great-grandfather was given title "Khan Bahadur" (brave). As a judge, a brown man under Colonial rule, he threw the book at a British attorney. "Learn the law" if in his courtroom. Hence my stiff moral backbone

Implications of Worldwide Population Growth For U.S. Security and Overseas Interests (THE KISSINGER REPORT)
December 10, 1974

It targeted brown people to reduce fertility-
Globalists-Humans are the problem.

Family Planning was a clever invention to promote Fertility Decline for Globalists. Population Control. It’s all right here in this unclassified Kissinger Report.
Planned Parenthood was specifically cited as a useful tool.
In addition to creating the climate (interesting in light of Climate Change push) for fertility decline...it is essential to provide safe and effective techniques for controlling fertility.

The effort to reduce population growth requires a variety of birth control methods...

For the #OBGYN community please watch the free AAGL #COVIDー19 webinar w/ global gyn surgeons from Seattle to Italy & S.Korea. Sobering glimpse for what’s to come nationwide. I have summarized international takeaways below:

1. National coordinated/organized response:
-Government OPENNESS, TRANSPARENCY.
-Medical COLLABORATION, COMMUNICATION, PASSION
-“United we stand, divided we fall”
2. Testing:
-Ubiquitous
-Relatively cheap (<$200)
-Results available in 4-6 hours, -Convenience-drive thru testing launched quickly
-Fast Isolation and Treatment

3. Tracking (controversial)
-All confirmed cases using surveillance cameras, car license plates & credit cards

#Alabama, #Ohio, #Missouri, and #Georgia have begun the @GOP's orchestrated attack on women with restrictive abortion laws.

Make NO mistake this is NOT about protecting life. It is a hostile GOP and their #WarOnWomen restricting #WomensReproductiveRights and #WomensHealth.
Highly restrictive abortion laws are not associated with lower abortion rates! Whether legal or prohibited the number of abortions taking place remains relatively unchanged. Highly restrictive abortion laws simply prevent SAFE abortions.
In countries where abortion is completely banned or permitted only to save the woman’s life or preserve her physical health, only 1 in 4 abortions were safe; whereas, in countries where abortion is legal on broader grounds, nearly 9 in 10 abortions were done safely.

Take a good look. Remember this little, wrong-headed worm.
THIS is who I want you to see when your healthcare choices are questioned: these little worms who think their magic sperm is seed to be sown where and as they please, like a cat spraying his territory.
1/
This is the man who calls his wife "mother." The poolboy-fiddling purveyor of hate and suppression by "education." The father of an animal torturer and a sick, downtrodden sycophant who serves at the pleasure of the rapist in chief.
2/
Will you let this man stand in between your doctor and you? Slow-kill your children & you through healthcare, food, and shelter denial?

Do you think a worm who rapes kids will step aside if you ask politely? Have they EVER?

Within weeks of the Orlando nightclub shooting, Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM) participated in a sit-in at the House to demand votes on gun control legislation, saying, "We owe it to the LGBT community & all families harmed by gun violence to keep terror suspects from obtaining guns."
Since he was first elected to Congress in 1998, Sen. Udall has taken a leadership role on a wide array of environmental issues, receiving a lifetime score of 96% from the League of Conservation Voters.

Sen. Udall was one of the original co-sponsors of the Arctic Wilderness Bill, and more recently has worked closely with the Navajo and Pueblo nations in New Mexico to oppose new leasing, drilling and fracking near Chaco Canyon National Park. #DemSenate2020 #DemFuture

In 2015, Olivia Onyemaobi raised a campaign against sexual abuse. She found out that some girls get abused by men who offer to help them get sanitary pads. To solve the problem, she started @PadupC
In Nigeria, some girls sometimes stay out of school during their menstrual cycle because they can’t afford sanitary pads. While some others use tissue, dry grasses, leaves and rags during their menstrual cycle. Just because they can not afford sanitary pads. #Thread

Some men cash in on this, by abusing young girls sexually just to provide them sanitary pads. @PadupC makes affordable, washable and reusable sanitary pads. Pad-Up menstrual kits are super thin with high absorption rate. #VUNBlog #VictorUgooNjokuBlog #womenshealth #lifestyle

Women with chronic illnesses: how long & how many doctors did it take you to get diagnosed? I counted 11 months & 17 doctors & wrote down what each did to show what we go through just to begin to heal.
Side note: the first person to accurately diagnose me was a psychic 😂 Second was my acupuncturist.
[Thread] Women, PoC, NB folks, & LGBTQ people w/ chronic illnesses are criticized for self-diagnosing, but the reason we self-diagnose is that those charged with diagnosing us are biased against us & don't understand issues that disproportionately affect us.
