Dear @ForeignAffairs: Your July 1947 edition featured the most consequential critique of Communism ever published. Your July 2019 edition has a harsh review of a book highly critical of The Chinese Communist Party. The review is co-authored by a CCP member. This wasn’t disclosed.
As for disclosure on my part, the book was written by my wife, @letahong. The review was by a Harvard professor, Susan Greenhalgh, and co-authored by a professor at Beijing Normal University, Wang Xiying (王曦影). Here she is at a 2018 Party meeting. ssdpp.bnu.edu.cn/xwzx/zxzx/5991…
It is common for professors in China to be CCP members. Vital for careers. But here it is important to disclose that, since the book is a strong critique of the CCP. The review even says my wife uses “Cold War” arguments. This is a CCP line and ironic given Kennan’s 1947 article.
