This isn’t a campaign against the left or socialism in general. We aim to unite people from across the political spectrum against the possibility of a Corbyn premiership, which we fear could undermine basic liberal-democratic values.
Specifically we’re deeply concerned by the past associations of Corbyn, and some of his closest allies, with anti-Semitic racists, those who use violence as a political tool in democratic societies and dictatorial regimes & their supporters.
A Government led by Jeremy Corbyn, a man who has described terror groups as his “friends” and gone out of his way to defend anti-Semites, would be a clear danger to core liberal-democratic principles in the UK.
Add John McDonnell, a man who has openly celebrated terror attacks that killed his countrymen and women & has called for “insurrection” claiming “parliamentary democracy doesn’t work for us”, and the situation becomes critical.
We recognise the situation is particularly critical for certain minority communities. Polling shows the vast majority of British Jews regard Labour as institutionally anti-Semitic and some are seriously considering leaving the UK should Corbyn become Prime Minister.
The basic position of the Campaign Against Corbynism is that for as long as Jeremy Corbyn, or someone who shares his regressive far-left ideology, remains leader nobody should vote Labour in a General Election. A Labour vote would be a vote for a Corbyn Government.
However we are certainly not opposed to the Labour Party per say. We recognise it has a proud history of promoting and defending the liberal-democratic framework for Government, and regret that it has been captured by extremists. Many of our supporters come from this tradition.
