Recall that Trent Lott could not continue as Majority Leader after his comments re Strom Thurmond google.com/amp/s/amp.theg… “We wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years" Lott said about Thurmond’s 1948 presidential bid. Of course that was false/inflammatory. 1
But how @JoeBiden comment about his old unreconstructed racist colleagues last night is significantly different from Lott’s is hard to spell out. Indeed Biden’s is as complimentary about the racists as Lott was, and in a setting completely w/o mitigating circumstance. 2
The comments of the former VP are more significant in 2020 as he seeks to lead the country than Lott’s were in 2002 as he ran the Senate. So will the outrage now approach and surpass the outrage then? 3
