Except they weren't called concentration camps when Obama was putting kids in cages.
In case you need a refresher, here's some pictures from when the Obama administration was putting kids in cages:
The number detainees and length of stay has increased under Trump, but was already high under Obama.
70% stay less than 1 month. It's intended to be temporary only as long as their case is wending its way through the courts, either released into the country or deported back to some other country.
It's worth re-iterating that Trump's horrific "child separation policy" is no longer in effect. The big reason children are detained, since 2014, is that they arrive at the border unaccompanied, or worse, accompanied by child traffickers.
When unaccompanied minors arrive at the border they need to be cared for in temporary housing until they can be placed with caregivers, which are usually relatives within the US. The process isn't instantaneous.
Replies to this thread claim it's the Democrats who are responsible for the child separation. Nope. All the fact checking sites debunk this.
Moreover, Trump administration officials are quoted as saying their intent was to punish the parents by going after their children. Yes, they used Obama-era rules to do this, but it was an intentional exploitation of the system to punish the parents.
