A white cop killed a black man in South Bend, Indiana, where @PeteButtigieg is still the mayor. He left the presidential campaign trail to handle the crisis. Judging by the reaction of the black community, he is handling it badly. @WesleyLowery, reporting. wapo.st/2Xka8th
There are some passages in Wes’s report that are stupefying: “Since arriving on Sunday, Buttigieg has alienated the family of the dead man, Eric Logan, 54, skipped a vigil at the scene of the shooting, and sought advice from outsiders, including the Rev. Al Sharpton of New York.”
Buttigieg did attend a community meeting last night and reached out to Shirley Newbill, Logan’s mother. Earlier, she had told @WesleyLowery that the mayor “ain’t done nothing...He ain’t recognize me as the mother of nothing. He didn’t say nothing to me.” southbendtribune.com/news/publicsaf…
The @washingtonpost report published prior to Buttigieg’s attendance at the Wednesday night community meeting. The folks in my mentions talking about Lowery’s reporting being a “hit piece” or somehow skewed need to show me what he got factually wrong, or have a Coke and a smile.
