Republicans hijacked Wisconsin’s Supreme Court, rigged the legislature, and then, the moment Democrats won control of the executive branch, used the other two branches to kneecap the governor and AG. Other cases are still pending in court. But remember this moment.
The Trump era started in Wisconsin on November 2, 2010.
The hyper-partisan Wisconsin Supreme Court's ruling today upholding the GOP's lame-duck power grab is a reminder that in the 2020 elections, Democrats are fighting for democracy itself.

Wisconsin is on a knife's edge.

Trump won here in 2016 with 22,748 votes, out of nearly 3 million. 0.7% margin.

In 2018, Dems won the governorship (yay!) by 29,227 votes. 1.1% margin.

In 2019, GOP won state Supreme Court race by 5,981 votes. 0.5% margin.

It'll be CLOSE.

Partisan gerrymanders elect GOP legislators.

GOP president nominates GOP SCOTUS justices.
GOP SCOTUS justices enshrine partisan gerrymanders.
In business, this would be called a “flywheel” or a “virtuous circle.” But nothing about it is virtuous. It entrenches minority rule at every step.

It’s a beautiful summer day. It’s a beautiful protest, standing for values that unite blue and red Wisconsin—the idea that kids are worth investing in. But what the GOP is cooking inside that building? Not beautiful.

Context on the Neubauer-Hagedorn results above, by @BruceMurphyMKE. Points to @DanielBice for retweeting this, since one of Murphy’s arguments is that this campaign reflected diminished influence of @journalsentinel, Wisconsin’s largest newspaper.
Lastly, @SykesCharlie offers his take on how Hagedorn pulled out a narrow victory despite being abandoned by prominent GOP-leaning business groups: It came down to self-identifying Christians buying his claim to be a victim of religious persecution.

Thread. #Wisconsin story. @jessieopie live-tweeted Gov. Walker’s announcement that he would sign all the legislation in the #WisconsinPowerGrab, & reaction from Governor-elect @Tony4WI. A couple of thoughts...
2. First, I don’t know how anyone who had lived in Wisconsin watching its politics over the last decade could have been surprised Walker approved what the legislature sent him. It is probable he was consulted extensively long before the legislature acted.
3. Scott Walker & Republican legislators in Wisconsin are served by the same campaign infrastructure, and serve the same large donors. They can disagree about some things, but must always be assumed to be of one mind on anything related to funding campaigns & winning elections.

OK let's put this in context. Harry Reid did that filibuster reform back in 2013.

You know, back when Obama/Holder/Hillary were fully involved in the big undertaking of politically weaponizing most of the federal government to tilt the playing field in the favor of Democrats.
Democrats did that 'filibuster reform' at the time because they had absolutely no fear whatsoever of ever losing control of the federal government.

They were in the process of stacking the deck so high in their favor, losing control was almost unthinkable.
Obama & his people got to spend 8 full years fixing the 'game' in their own favor.

I'm not talking about just siccing the IRS on Conservative Tea Party groups.

Most people have no grasp of how bad it was, the corruption of our gov't that was occuring.
