I am officially a "statistic" - one of those strong independent women who is unmarried at 40. I am a statistic and I didn't die. What glorious unexpected joy.
We are sometimes afraid of being a statistic because we assume we are special and different. It's supposed to happen to others, not us.
Stop being afraid. Live. Life does not take instructions from you, despite what you've been taught.
I honestly don't know what made the realisation so joyous for me. Nothing fundamental shifted. No new decisions or plans. Still no pressure for a relationship. I think it's just the peace that comes from accepting the fact, instead of avoiding it in my head.
PS: Today is NOT my birthday oh.

Every value creation process in business lives or dies on quality admin and operations. The day I learnt this was the day I realised my admin skills were a goldmine. I have since monetised them.
The thing is, in Nigeria, people who pay excruciating attention to detail, possess orderly thinking, have the flexibility to interpret & adapt on-the-move and have the fortitude to manage things consistently are rare. Your value is near priceless.
I also learnt that the value of exceptional intellect in admin cannot be overemphasised. While most people can be trained for repetitive tasks, true admin and ops geniuses possess high native intelligence. That's why they absorb, interpret and adapt information quickly.

I've been studying Proverbs. When I see how Solomon describes going after things that are precious, I can understand why people wait to get married.
I also understand why when people finally find what they want, they move quickly. They have no shame and ignore protocol. They are not willing to let something rare and precious pass by.
Sometimes when people reel out a list of things they MUST have in a relationship, I ask one question. "What is the one thing that if you found, you would gladly sacrifice all other things for?"

I've been thinking about this question for days - "WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE NIGERIAN?"
I did some traveling around Africa and Asia. It helped me to imagine what Nigeria could be like with light and leadership. Western countries are too advanced for me to imagine any correlation. So, African and Asian nations help me to project better.
It dawned on me that some of these countries have nations within nations, like Nigeria. They are multi-ethnic and muti-religious. They had Military rule. They were colonised. They had religious conflict. They had slave trade.

Lands inhabited solely by women are a recurring theme in Indian folklore. In one tale, the Sage Matsyendrānath is cursed by the goddess Pārvartī so that he forgets his asceticism and is enchanted and deluded by the wiles of the women of Kadalī. #FolkloreThursday
Some versions of this tale have Matsyendrā voluntarily entering the land of women and becoming the lover of Queen Mainākinī and her 1600 courtesans. Orders come from the Queen and Matsyendra that no men – and particularly no yogis - be allowed into the kingdom.
Eventually Goraknath turns up – and in some versions of the tale – he fights Hanuman – who, due to Queen Mainākinī’s devotions, is enforcing the order that no man may enter the kingdom – and argues his way past Rama.

During World War 2, the Nazis were afraid of 46th Taman Aviation Regiment (An all female regiment of Soviet Air force).

The Nazis dubbed them the 'Night Witches', on account of the way they would cut their aircraft engines to silently swoop in before dropping their bombs. 1/n
From mechanics to navigators, pilots and officers, the 46th Taman regiment was composed entirely of women.

The women, most of them barely 20 years old, started training in Engels, a small town north of Stalingrad.
The women of the 46th regiment flew their first bombing mission on June 8, 1942.

The air raid consisted of three planes; their target was the headquarters of a German division (Wehrmacht). The raid was successful.

I'm watching Batman (1989) and there's something underrated about miniature model cityscapes as opposed to CGI buildings.

I love CGI cityscapes, but they're different from models in a very specific way.
Also I think we forget how overacted this movie is.
Not in a bad way, mind. It's overacted in that whole kind of comic book "larger than life" way that they were absolutely going for

But it's absolutely a ham salad.

Today I am going to try and cook for the first time since I was paralyzed.

I used to cook most nights for me and The Wife. After Mass on Sundays, I would make brunch.

I made every holiday meal for 17 of our 18yrs together. I did the #Christmas baking.

I started cooking as a child. I grew up in a chaotic household. Great politics but a chronically ill mother. I was the oldest sibling & the maternal stand-in.

I became a vegetarian for political reasons at 14, so I had to learn how cook that diet cheaply since we were poor.

In college I cooked for everyone. I knew how to stretch $.When I was in the domestic Peace Corps I taught people how to cook with next to no money.

I love feeding people.
I think food is an evocation of love for many folks.

I haven't been able to cook since I was paralyzed.
