As #AspenIdeaHealth concludes today I will share with you some of my reflections. It was a pleasure to see @jrovner @EricTopol @davidrosenthal @olgakhazan @WalterIsaacson Aviv Regev of @MIT and others.
It is truly humbling and awe-inspiring to realize that our human body is made up of a congealing of pulsating energy and elements of the stardust that began its life with the primordial big bang.
The body has ~37 trillion cells that all began with a single event of the union of Shiva and Shakti and the creative energy expansion that followed. Here is Aviv Regev on cells:
A single #stemcell explodes into trillions of cells with a magnificent diversity of form and function.
And similar to the presence of the dark matter and dark energy, we are just realizing that the visible universe of what we call our human body also contains an invisible, equal or larger number of microbes that call us home.
The technologies of single cell genomics and DNA microscopy are as revealing of our inner universe of the body, as the great retrospective, time traveling powers of the instruments of astrophysics are to the study and understanding of our external universe.
The immense complexity of the universe, or the applications of algorithms to understand the origins of the trillions of cells of the human body, or the murmuration of the starlings share the mathematical beauty of emergence that is almost a musical dance of the Cosmos-Tandava
The most ironic part of the human story is that this sentient organism that is utterly deluded by the diversity of form, does not recognize its connection with the rest of the humanity and the earth.
And it is at the cusp of accelerating and dictating its own evolution with the technologies such as single cell genomics, DNA microscopy, and CRISPR. Here is @illumina CEO @fdesouza
How we deploy these fantastic technologies will require that we consider principles of ethics, equity, sustainability, and more besides just the science. Here’s @WalterIsaacson / END OF THREAD
Thank you to @aspenideas @aspeninnovators @AspenInstitute @HP for arranging the conference
Great work by @DanPorterfield Ruth Katz, Peggy Clark, Margaret Low, Lissa Ballinger and the entire team
