A4 #AAUWAsks For humanities folks, the UPenn English CFP site is a great place to find calls for papers & presentations. If you’re dissertating, writing should be your focus but it doesn’t hurt to start thinking about which chapter would make an ideal job talk.

On a daytime coffee date, a man told me about how he cured himself of epilepsy by using The Secret™️. At the end of the date he asked where I lived & I said, half jokingly “don’t be a stalker.” He replied “When you say that you’re telling the universe you want a stalker.” 😳😳😳
I walked the opposite direction of my house to a well-lit public park where I called a friend and sat for a while until I was sure he wasn’t following me. He texted me every day for two weeks after.
This is all to say: worst dates for women often mean harassment & violence rather than funny stories. #partypooper #MeToo #feministkilljoy

Don’t talk about #Stonewall50 if you’re not going to support trans ppl.
Don’t celebrate #Stonewall if you’re not going to fight for queer & trans ppl of color.
Don’t claim OUR history if you don’t intend to continue to struggle for freedom & justice for ALL queer & trans folks.
This means supporting sex workers.
This means fighting for disability justice.
This means condemning the prison industrial complex.
This means recognizing cis privilege.
This means no fucking cops & corporations at #Pride.
This means not being content until ALL OF US can live our lives free from racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, classist, xenophobic, anti-Semitic, Islamaphobic violence in a nation that provides the food, housing, education, & healthcare we need to thrive.

Thread: Throwing a badass inclusive, accessible, feminist party is a challenge yall. I bought food for so many different dietary needs, ensured my party space is wheelchair accessible & has plenty of seating for folks of all sizes.
I’m providing alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages & the first part of the night is family/kid friendly for my parent friends. I’ve got party favors, games, photo wall, & of course the pool.
In regard to guests bringing friends, I wrote that folks can bring whomever: “so long as your guests don’t do or say anything racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist or transphobic to other guests. In other words, bring ppl you trust to be good humans in a QTPOC-centered space.“

Things we do on Shabbat: Pray, read, study Torah, take walks, play with our kids, nap, have long IRL conversations, eat delightful meals with delightful people (Fri dinner and sat lunch are often basically both dinner parties), notice things, slow down.
A typical Shabbat schedule (if you will) might include: Rushing around Friday before Shabbat to get ready, including cooking. Light candles. It's Shabbat. Leave for Fri night services. Sing and pray. (cot'd)

Good time to point out that medical students who wear Blackface and KKK robes in school become doctors who give substandard care to Black people.
The Black maternal death rate isn't a coincidence. Our health care is racists because we have racist people as medical practitioners. pbs.org/newshour/show/…
Medical school should be a time when a student's preparing for a career to save lives, give good care.

But if the foundation of one's medical career is imbued with racist 'jokes' ...I can only imagine how they treat patients of color as a practitioner.

Guess who's going on their second date tonight...
Second dates.. what subjects do you explore?. I think it's a good time to bring up the subject of #PrEP. 1. It lets the person know that I care about sexual health. 2. If they say something like, "#PrEP is for sluts" (I've heard that) I'll ask them why they believe that.
Imagine if you were talking to someone and you mentioned that you are taking the contraceptive pill and their response was, "the pill is for people that don't want to use condoms and be promiscuous" - Sometimes people make judgements about your moral character because of a pill.

It's well known that few (~32%) of PhD students in economics are women

We investigate variation around this mean:
High of 50% 😃
Low of 10% 😡

(These are decadal averages!)
What's more: we find that some PhD programs have excellent relative outcomes for women (first placement, publication, promotion).... and some don't

"relative outcome" = women's outcomes compared to men in same program
