This misconception appears to be gaining traction in Britain. Barnier's team (AKA TaskForce 50) very much 'remains in place'. Only key figure to leave is deputy Sabine Weyand, who has moved to DG Trade. But sources say she'll 'still be involved' in Brexit talks if they resume.
In fact, member's of Team Barnier were advised to take their summer holidays earlier this year so that they'll be around in Brussels for the end of July/start of August when the next UK PM is appointed, in case they want to immediately reopen talks.
