This misconception appears to be gaining traction in Britain. Barnier's team (AKA TaskForce 50) very much 'remains in place'. Only key figure to leave is deputy Sabine Weyand, who has moved to DG Trade. But sources say she'll 'still be involved' in Brexit talks if they resume.
In fact, member's of Team Barnier were advised to take their summer holidays earlier this year so that they'll be around in Brussels for the end of July/start of August when the next UK PM is appointed, in case they want to immediately reopen talks.
Aaaaaaargh that stray apostrophe is rather distressing. Profuse apologies.

He said there's 'huge frustration' among Member States, especially those in the Mediterranean and East for whom Brexit is not a big priority, that the UK's departure is still 'taking up so much of our agenda' three years after the referendum result.
'The sense I'd have from my colleagues around the table is that a further extension would only be contemplated for a realistic purpose. So say for example an election happened in the UK, say for example there's a decision made by them, not by us, to have a second referendum.'

First up @GregHands says the purpose of the AA Commission 'is to try and find a deal that can work'. Says: 'To be absolutely clear we're not a No Deal body. We're exactly the opposite. We're dedicated to finding a solution that will work in London, Brussels, Dublin and Belfast.'
Hands says the recommendations in its report will take 2-3 years to implement but can be agreed before October 31. 'None of it involves yet to be discovered technology, tech unicorns. All of it involves existing procedures somewhere in the world or even used by the EU itself.'

Dinner in Brussels between Barnier and Barclay is over. UK government spokesperson says: "The meeting was constructive and Mr Barclay and Mr Barnier agreed to further talks in the coming days and that their teams would continue to work in the meantime on finding a way forward”.
Barclay was accompanied by UK perm rep Tim Barrow and No.10 Brexit official Olly Robbins; Barnier was accompanied by his comms chief Stéphanie Riso and deputy Sabine Weyand. They ate sole, scallops, duck breast, potato dauphin, vanilla ice-cream, and a cheeseboard.

Brussels update: Michel Barnier's deputy, Sabine Weyand, told EU ambassadors, Barnier ready to recommend "decisive progress" IF London gives the green light on the package.
EU ambassadors have not seen the texts of withdrawal agreement or political statement. They were taken into the room, but not revealed to them.
EU27 has not signed off on Brexit deal, but that was not the point of today's meeting. It was an update on what negotiators have agreed at technical level.
EU27 will want to read that text very carefully in coming days.
