A historical note - part of the process of fascism coming to power in Germany and elsewhere was the police & courts cooperating by for instance arresting & jailing leftists who physically resisted fascism ( AntiFa of the day) but not arresting or quickly releasing fascists

Hitler for instance only served 8 months for his failed Munich coup in which 4 cops & 16 nazis died. He spent that time writing Mein Kampf with 2 fellow nazis, indicative of prison conditions so soft that he essentially had a writing holiday.

Important to underline that this is how fascism comes to power. Not through elections (they never won a free election anywhere) but because a significant section of the state and capitalist class side with them and clear their way to power by aiding in eliminating opposition.

This allows them at times of crisis to go from minority, not very popular movements to having state power over the course of months. They are entirely dependent on traditional conservatism & nationalism in that process

We are entering a period of history where crisis due to #ClimateEmergency in particular is seeing those traditional conservatives & nationalists once more creating space for fascism in the mistaken belief they will control the outcome
