According to @DHSgov budget docs, there are roughly 22,000 border patrol agents.

That means 9,500 is over 40 percent of today's staff. dhs.gov/sites/default/…
The secret border patrol Facebook group, which has about 9,500 members, reportedly includes former agents too. So the 9,500 number is not all people currently in government.
But it isn't clear yet whether it is the actions of just a "few" as Brian Hastings, chief of operations for US Border Patrol, said:

For 1st year+, we got watered-down Trump, thanks to the "adults" in the room, who occasionally pushed back against his worst impulses.

These days, it's Trump unchained. I'm starting to think maybe it would have been better for us to have gotten this version from the get go.
1) Without the slow build, it may have shocked more members of the GOP?

2) There would have been no pretense that any of this is normal?
But with tanks on the streets of DC and images of people in cages, it's pretty clear this is Trump's vision for America, and he is finally make it a reality.

An hour after meeting Rex Tillerson for the first time, Trump offered him the job of Secretary of State, according to Tillerson.
Tillerson's reaction? "I was stunned."
Brian Hook, now the US special envoy to Iran, did not get the job he initially wanted, according to Tillerson, who declined to divulge what that first choice position was.

Good morning! Today the Senate Judiciary Committee is having a hearing Sen. Graham's "Secure and Protect Act," his plan to rewrite asylum laws.

Importantly, this will be Acting DHS Secretary @DHSMcAleenan's first appearance since Friday's tariffs announcement.

The bill would allow for vastly expanded detention of families and children, block asylum for anyone not going to a port of entry, and create other new limits on asylum.

🚨 NEW: DHS Office of Inspector General's report on "dangerous overcrowding" at the El Paso Del Norte Processing Center is now out.

900 people held in a facility designed for 125!

In one case, "a cell with a maximum capacity of 35 held 155 detainees."

DHS OIG visited five different CBP facilities in the El Paso area over the week of May 6, 2019. What they found was massively overcrowded cells with asylum seekers packed in like sardines.

In one case, the Border Patrol had put 76 women into a cell designed for just twelve.
One cell was designed for just 8 people. But the Inspector General found 41 women forced into it.

According to the OIG, "overcrowding and prolonged detention represent an immediate risk to the health and safety not just of the detainees, but also DHS agents and officers."

DHS Inspector General says the gov't could have spared some migrant parents caught in the Trump administration's zero tolerance push from being separated from their children.

But officials didn't do it "in order to avoid doing the additional paperwork."
The IG also found that Homeland Security might not have provided accurate information about its compliance with a court order requiring the government to reunify migrant parents with their children.
