DD-Startups has been announced. All problems now solved.
It's been over an hour. Targets, achievements, promises -- but not a single budgetary allocation. This simply does not happen in a Budget speech....!
The biggest applause from the Lok Sabha in this #Budget2019 speech -- I am not making this up -- has been for Nirmala Sitharaman speaking a sentence in Hindi.
Finally an allocation -- Rs 70k crore for recapitalising public sector banks. But we knew they would have to do that under Basel norms. It also means privatisation / banking reform is still off the table.
What amazing amazing confidence -- FM left the fiscal deficit out, and only put it in as an afterthought after her speech has officially finished... even though she claims to have brought it down! This was a truly odd set of decisions for this speech
