It's very appropriate that this reporting about the Seth Rich conspiracy is coming out the week of the White House's "Social Media Summit." In both cases, what passes for "news stories" are mostly fabrications designed to deceive and manipulate voters. news.yahoo.com/exclusive-the-…
The Seth Rich conspiracy theory was planted by Russian operatives, circulated by Alex Jones and other far right propagandists, and then picked up by Hannity and then even pitched to 60 MInutes by Steve Bannon when he WORKED IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
Meanwhile, this guy will be at the social media summit. A guy who said that millions of antifa supersoldiers were going to behead white parents on Nov. 4, 2017. (Spoiler: it didn't happen.)
This guy will also be there...the guy who draws cartoons that basically serve as an etch-a-sketch of Alex Jones's neuroses.
And also this career grifter/hoaxer will be there. He's one of the people who got MAGA folks to chip in thousands of dollars for him and Loomer and Wohl to explore the supposed "no go" zones of Ilhan Omar's district.
Of course, the chief minister of MAGA disinformation, Charlie Kirk, will be there.
And also longtime right wing hoaxer James O'Keefe of Project Veritas will be there. He's fabricated many a story to serve conservative interests starting with ACORN in the Obama admin. Trump Org gave him $10K in 2015. theatlantic.com/politics/archi…
Interestingly, the WH seems to have drawn the line at Pizzagate Jack and "handcuff myself to Twitter's front door until they verify me" Loomer. I guess one's grift can't be TOO obvious.
Basically, Trump is assembling the most effective pro-Trump social media trolls in the nation for a meeting at the White House where they will discuss how to craft MAGA-misinformation campaigns slightly better than what Loomer, Pizzagate Jack, or Jacob Wohl can come up with.
If there's one thing Trump is savvy about it's crafting a self-serving media campaign...I mean, his so-called business career is basically one long, self-serving, largely fabricated media campaign.
And now he is assembling an army of the least scrupulous people in the media industry to create a messaging machine that will invent whatever stories it needs to keep him in power.
The GOP has long recognized that the credulity and resentment of racist white voters is one of the nation's most abundant natural resources...and they've been tapping that seemingly inexhaustible well since the 1960s.
What they recognize now is that social media is like a bitcoin mine of white fear and credulity...it's not a finite resource, it turns out, the stockpiles can be replenished through the magic of social media.
As with most things, this is a very old story about cynical lying politicians...and also a very new story about how communications technology + the populist political culture of Trumpism introduces new wrinkles into that old story.
What follows are some more receipts/links one can follow to fully understand who the attendees at this summit are and how seriously dystopian this is. For starters, Clarence Thomas's wife is working in cahoots with O'Keefe to defend Trump.
Here's a good overview of O'Keefe's long career of media hoaxes. theguardian.com/us-news/2017/n…
Interrupting this thread to note that someone other than me just tried to reset my Twitter password. First time this has ever happened to me.
Some of Bill Mitchell's finest work.
Aside from the occasional antisemitic cartoon, Garrison is also known for his remarkably true-to-life depictions of the President who he seems to really really admire.
Kirk is less cartoonish than Garrison in his Trump sycophancy and he is a more effective liar than the joker O'Keefe. Kirk is the master of the maybe-almost-true fact taken knowingly out of context to serve my interests. Here's an example.
Finally, here's an article FROM 2012 about the criminal fraudster Ali whose racist tweet about Kamala was retweeted by Junior Varsity Trump and who will be sitting down with the POTUS on Thursday at the WH. crooksandliars.com/matt-osborne/n…
Apologies. Earlier in this thread I retweeted a right winger's post on Garrison. I should have double checked that, but now it's too late. For more on Garrison, here's a good start. huffpost.com/entry/anti-sem…
To circle back to Seth Rich. Here's a long thread detailing Fox's extensive coverage of this complete hoax. Don't forget that Hannity and Trump speak frequently on the phone.
