LRT: I think a lot about Tangelo Park when the matter of subsidized child care comes up.

Tangelo Park is a Florida neighborhood effectively "adopted" by a hotel millionaire, Harris Rosen. He provides free pre-K, daycare, and college scholarships to residents.
Inside a single generation, the crime rate has cratered, high school graduation rates are up from 50% to near 100%, property values are up. The entire community has done a complete u-turn, fueled largely by programs designed to *help people take care of their kids.*
And this all only cost $11 million dollars. Over the course of 21 YEARS.

Tangelo Park is incredibly sobering. It makes it so clear we KNOW what works, and how it can be implemented; the only problem is the people with the power to do it *just don't fucking want to.*
Universal, subsidized pre-k and daycare could lift millions out of poverty, and prevent millions more from ever falling into it.

But we just won't do it.
