This is the NEA, which is the parent org to the @ncae.
The President of the NCAE, Mark Jewell, is running for a position on the NEA Executive Committee.
#nced #ncpol
@ncae In addition to supporting abortion, the #NEA adopted more measures dealing with politics and social justice than they did education-related items.
Including slave reparations, "white fragility" training, & others. (more)
Changing calendars so that Election day can become a "day of action" and promoting the "goals of unionism."

Numerous items adopted related to LGBT curriculum, programs and partnerships.
This includes a tribute to the Stonewall Riot, support of the "Equality Act," partnership with the Human Rights Campaign & expansion of "Gender Sexuality Alliances advisers."
Another batch deal with race - including 'racial justice education', investigating confederate museums and groups tied to them, and supporting Black Lives Matter campaigns in schools.

More race-related items include 'white fragility' training, 'courageous conversations' and providing materials on the "white supremacy culture associated with "English only" movements; "

Also adopted - items like an apology to the NY 5, being involved in the 2020 census with other unions, 'Red Shawl Day' and 100% student loan forgiveness.

Some more adoptions - proper pronouns, voter suppression, court fees.
These two actually had education ties.
Adoption of a pro-climate change curriculum push and an effort to block 'creation science' from schools.
"encourage the extension of university harassment, discrimination, and assault reporting and advocacy services to be officially in place until the completion of the preK-12 school year"

What could go wrong?
And finally, announcing what your findings on charter school impacts will be in advance.

Spoiler: "Negative..."

The items that were defeated were eye-opening.

Also defeated included pro-Palestine/anti-Israel items, support of the Green New Deal, "solidarity" with McDonald's workers/min wage, a website to endorse presidential candidates, and rejection of supporting the impeachment of President Trump.

Interestingly, 2 items targeting/attacking charter schools were defeated - expansion of and taking 'legal action' against charters.
Teachers Unions brought Zero Tolerance policies to fruition decades ago.

Now, the demand for the publication and equal access to a 'discipline matrix' has been defeated.
And here are the 5 items that were withdrawn which include creating a forum for open debate on issues, recruiting more teachers 'of color' and to "monitor politicians for academic truth in claims and ideas pertaining to public education."

NEA President's remarks are mainly political and include a rant about "education justice," Betsy Devos, Donald Trump, promotion of "red for ed" activism and promotion of recent protests.
