This was done in Karnataka and Maharashtra as well. The entire plan from jallikattu to Sabarimala to "anti-superstition" is to ban popular Hindu folk practices. For common people, these are the link, not high advaita. Conversion war targets these, aided by "modern" Hindus.
Unfortunately large parts of "Hindutva" also looks down on these folk practices as "backward." Wants Hinduism to be "modern & scientific." Become allies in the conversion war.

Create an arbitrary test of "non-mainstream superstition" to exclude Islam and Christianity, since they can have no scientific definition of superstition. So acts are carefully targeted to exclude them since the entire point is #ChristoIslamic supremacy.
The Court System also follow the Abrahamic template of religion. Practices need to be justified by scripture as "essential practices" to be protected. In effect, the entire State of India, legislature, executive and judiciary is intent on converting India to #ChristoIslam.
If "superstition" means "unscientific" then all of Islam and Christianity qualify. But the word "superstition" itself is theological, not scientific. It means nothing outside of Christian theology, but Hindus use these words imagining they mean something.
What does the Christian word "superstition" mean? It means "worship of false (i.e. non-Christian) god" or "improper worship (i.e. not authorized by the Church) of the true god."
So all of Hinduism is superstition. To ban this is the real aim of all anti-supersition laws.

But you see plenty of BJP wallahs piling on to "stopping superstition" They even cooperated in passing the anti-superstition act in Maharashtra. Even the Sangh is keen to be "modern", ignorantly so.
