#KeithDavisJr trial recap: part 1

First witness BPD officer Heffernan. The same officer Heffernan who killed Michael Wudtee in 2012. 1/

2nd officer on scene. Took command until homicide detective arrived. Was on another call (vehicle being towed) when police broadcast went out at 4:53 am. Finished call (about 12 minutes) then went to scene 2/

Drove around in his car looking for a shooting victim, then got out, entered Pimlico parking lot, found Kevin Jones. 3/

“He looked dead” so did not check breathing or offer aid. Called for a medic. 4/

Secured area about 20 feet around body. Searched no other area for evidence, talked to no witnesses. 5/

Turned command over to homicide detective Veney upon Veney’s arrival. Gave what little information he had, then did nothing else for hours. 6/

Was never asked by Veney to do anything else, never asked by Veney to canvass the area, look for evidence, or talk to Pimlico staff. 7/

Kevin Jones’ body remained uncovered for hours, in view of neighbors and horse track workers. 8/

Didn’t notice two cell phones lying on ground beside murder victim. 9/

Transported evidence to evidence locker. Provided handwritten descriptions to evidence tech who entered info into computer. 10/

Does not remember describing CO2 cartridge found in Kevin Jones’ bag as being BB gun related. Claims the evidence tech must have put that in the report. Doesn’t have his handwritten notes. 11/

No wallet seen or recovered Heffernan, no phones in evidence transported. 12/

No follow up from Veney after he left scene. 13/
