"Perhaps I wouldn't have cancer now if you hadn't nagged me for the last 20 years about all the smoking, drinking and eating red meat I was doing" is a hell of a take, but you do you.
Every day for of my adult life, I've wondered "Am I wrong? Should I try to do better?" and read philosophy and history and tried to listen and failed and tried again & these people's ability to live life utterly convinced they have never, ever been wrong is fucking magnificent.
And I'm one of the confident ones! COMPLETELY UNDERSERVEDLY so! Ask anyone who's worked with me, my genial arrogance in the face of executives is my super-power! Yet I am just gobsmacked.

This headline is somewhat misleading, as Moore stated that while he is retiring from *writing* comics, he will instead be "... *apparating* comics directly from the mythic ur-Dream directly into the minds of those who need them most."

Instinctively enraged when I see someone defending the chant but then I make sure to check the profile. Again & again “joined May 2019” “joined April 2019” but with thousands of posts, all political, none personal. Twitter is utterly lost to information warfare.

Literally drunk and yell/laughing at each other: "We're some strange criminals who showed up to help, trust us!" "Oh, Michael, my yoga instructor's son's girfriend's brother got mixed up with meth dealers, you have to help him!"
FWIW those were both technically structured as "private investigator" shows as opposed to the "consulting detective", a distinctly American art form which is devilishly difficult to do. Do not take the PI form lightly or underestimate its obstacles.
And for those who don't subscribe to @wordtetrispod for great behind the scenes TV and film writing nuggets, you're missing out.

India (Bhārat), aka Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya) constitutes a mosaic of paradoxes and contradictions starting with the existence of gigantic socio-economic disparities which are in sharp contrast with the spectacular technological development in most productive sectors.
Such contradictions reflect significant measurement discrepancies which, in India's case, could be on the order of hundreds of millions of people.
Furthermore, there is the problem of Islamic terrorists, who are trained abroad and find easy fuel in the contradictions within it.
Finally, there’s agriculture which, by some estimates, accounts for 90% of India’s water consumption. Farmers meet irrigation demands by indiscriminately extracting groundwater, which some say accounts for a quarter of the world’s groundwater usage.

The targets set in the proposed Green New Deal are a bit ambiguous. It suggests a 10-year mobilization, but does not necessarily set a goal of net-zero carbon by 2030. Lets explore the impact of the goals on the climate and the challenge of mitigation *epic thread*. 1/27
First, the climate. If the world wants to limit warming to below 1.5C (with a ~66% chance of avoiding it) with limited deployment of negative emissions, US emissions would have to fall around 50% by 2030 and to net-zero a bit after 2040. 2/
Equity considerations (giving more room for future emissions from poor countries) could further compress this timeline, as would divvying up the remaining carbon budget evenly to each country based on population. 3/

I'm late to the party on the EATLancet Report on how to feed a growing population. They prescribe a diet optimal for both people and planet, and I largely agree. I've got a few thoughts, though. 1/ eatforum.org/content/upload…
Their diet: double fruit, veg, nuts, & legumes while cutting meat consumption in half. It's totally reasonable, but of course it's the MEAT part that causes the brouhaha. It's the same debate playing out about the US Dietary Guidelines: CARBS vs. MEAT.
Cutting meat in half WORLDWIDE means cutting by 75% in the US. EATLancet says 1.5 oz/day of red meat + poultry. Current USDA estimate is that we eat 4x that. (Report recommends 92 cals/day, USDA says availability adjusted for loss is 387 cals/day.) ers.usda.gov/data-products/…

I started (unknowingly) on a path to dramatic carbon reduction on Jan 1, 2017, when I started biking to work, walking kids to school. Carbon reduction became addictive, and more deeply nourishing than I ever thought possible. #myfirststep Thread.
Biking to work is a carbon pittance, I know. But it opened my eyes to structural barriers, so I became the Traffic Chair for my neighborhood board and have become a fixture down at City Hall on bike/ped/multimodal safety in Atlanta. I had NEVER been to City Hall in 14yrs prior!
And my engagement didn’t stop there - I was just getting started! I started tracking my family’s energy and water bills on a graph, bought all LEDs for my house, my parent’s house, and my sister’s house. I insulated all the windows and doors and external outlet boxes.

The part in this article about the opioid crisis was more accurate for when it was written. BUT.
The data behind the opioid issue is very flawed. And it has been since 2004, though it is less flawed now.

The CDC admitted the recent data was wrong last April. Yet even surgical & cancer patients can't get mild pain killers.
I do like the part exposing the data behind crack babies. Someone needs to take that model and do the investigative part for the opioid hysteria.
