A Lib Dem involved in counting in the leadership contest says: “It’s neck and neck here. We are all shocked. Ed has some momentum...”
Lots of Lib Dems are pushing back against this. A party spokesperson says: “No counting has taken place so comments such as this can't be anything other than pure speculation."

Unite to Remain's @heidiallen75 on Brecon: "People in the European elections were disappointed that the Remain parties didn't have time to get their acts together – but the incredible way in which these parties have acted to ensure victory in Brecon shows what can be achieved."

@heidiallen75 @BestForBritain Unite to Remain figures are pretty sure that the Tories would have won in Brecon & Radnorshire if Plaid, Greens hadn't stood aside. They point to estimated European election results in the constituency - see @chrishanretty's research - that put Plaid on 9.4%, Greens on 7.9%.

PM Johnson boxes himself in on the Brexit deal: “A time limit is not enough... The way to a deal goes by the abolition of the backstop.”

He says alternatives arrangements to the backstop can be used now. Opposition MPs yell “how?”
Corbyn quotes manufacturing org Make UK who said no-deal Brexit “would be the height of economic lunacy” and adds: “Those recklessly advocating no deal will not be the ones who lose out.”

Lib Dem leadership hustings in...Islington. Very different vibe from the rallies I’ve been used to, of late.
.@joswinson tells me “there should be no limit to our ambition. Politics is realigning on a liberal/nationalist axis.” When I ask if she thinks she could be prime minister “Yes. I would love to be.”

Lib Dems/Greens "v pissed off" by this tweet, one source tells me. They confirm, however, that talks are ongoing about a joint candidate. That is v interesting . Source says though that ChangeUK jumping the gun and talking to journalists endangers trust between the parties.
"Frankly it is cackhanded and unprofessional. Change UK often forget that we are a political party and have processes to go through."
Green Party source: "Our candidate selection is done at local level by democratic vote of all the members of the local party. Any decision to stand aside or stand a joint candidate would be for local party to make - probably requiring an emergency meeting of the local party..."
