1/ .@MarciaCoyle and @Tonymauro provide update on the status of J. Stevens's papers: Documents from before 10/1/2005 will become public on 10/1/2020. Docs after 2005 will become public in 2030.
2/ A related note. More of CJ Rehnquist's papers should be open: from Dec 1975 (when Stevens was appointed) till Sept 1981 (when O'Connor was appointed). Those papers will include his records from the OT 1980 term when a young John G. Roberts was his law clerk.
3/ The next batch of Rehnquist papers will stretch from Sept 1981 (when O'Connor was appointed) till Feb 1988 (when Kennedy was appointed).

1/ Art. III, Sec. 2 provides "[i]n all Cases . . . in which a State shall be [a] Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction." Does the text of the Constitution grant #SCOTUS the discretion to decline jurisdiction of a case in which "a State shall be [a] Party"?
2/ In Nebraska v. Colorado, Justices Thomas and Alito said #SCOTUS could not decline to exercise jurisdiction in a suit between two states. Federal law provides that #SCOTUS has "exclusive" jurisdiction over such suits.

3/ Thomas and Alito also noted that #SCOTUS has declined to exercise jurisdiction where only one state is a party. They would reconsider this doctrine.

#UPDATE: After exhaustive search, I believe that the tanker likely hijacked by #Iran over the weekend was owned/chartered by KB&R Inc., a #US military defense contractor and petroleum engineering company with headquarters in #Dubai, the home port of the ship.
No company named KRB as listed in the article operates out of Dubai, but KB&R (since the name is an agglomeration of three names, the letters can be switched) has two offices in downtown Dubai.
KB&R also has a history of subcontracting tankers for the US military, which matches up with the detail that it was chartered by KB&R through an Iraqi company.

@ABC7 Noah's 10-year-old sister also told investigators she witnessed and participated in Noah's abuse. She told police McIntosh was put in the bathtub in cold water and while Noah was handcuffed. She described helping her dad hold Noah's legs down in the water.

@ABC7 Bryce McIntosh is accused of murder and a special circumstance charge of torture.
@ABC7 Noah's mother Jillian Godfrey is in custody for willful child cruelty. Police say she had notes in her phone documenting Noah's abuse. She wrote Bryce admitted to putting Noah in hot water & cold water for 6+ hours. She told police she heard Noah ask Bryce why he was hurting him.
