Let's take a logical approach to sex and gender...

There are two sexes (Male and Female)
There are three genders (Masculine, Feminine and Neuter)

That gives a total of six different combinations...

A Male who is Masculine is a stereotypical 'gender conforming' man.
A Male who is Feminine could self-identify as a transwoman or just as an effeminate man.
A Male who is Neuter could express themselves in an androgynous way, or be agender, non-binary or #genderfree

A Female who is Feminine is a stereotypical 'gender conforming' woman.
A Female who is Masculine could self-identify as a transman or just as a butch woman.
A Female who is Neuter could express themselves in an androgynous way, or be agender, non-binary or #genderfree

Ultimately, human sex and human gender expression are two distinct characteristics (one physical, one social) that can be combined as described. It does not get, nor does it need to be, more complicated than that.

It has been demonstrated that the female sex class needs to have defined rights above and beyond the human rights everyone has. This is because of the disadvantages that girls and women experience because of their sex.

There has been no demonstration that reaches the evidential standard necessary to change international human rights law that one's societal expression of gender needs to have defined rights above and beyond the human rights everyone has.

The case for additional human rights for people based on their gender expression is as compelling as a case for additional human rights for people based on what colour shoes they wear. Neither attribute confers a tangible vulnerability in a modern society.
