If you hate theory, and think philosophy is useless, this post is not for you. Don't waste your time reading useless stuff. Go fix a tap or mix cement. Be relevant.

For the rest of us humans, this is a lesson in what is wrong with #competencybasedcurriculum
Now, when you jump with your kids, it's supposed to be spontaneous. Maybe you're playing a game. If you're a teacher, you want kids to have fun as they learn. If it's sports, you want to teach a particular skill. If it's with music, you want to teach dance.
The point is that you don't analyze the techniques and purposes of jumping, unless you are in college (TVET or Uni) taking a class in kinetics class or maybe physical therapy.

But from the picture from @KICDKenya documents, you will see that KICD has spoiled all the fun.
@KICDKenya The CBC attaches core competencies, learning outcomes, experiences and inquiry questions to the simple act of jumping. Why ask a kid about the need to jump high, surely? Who thinks like that? Even to morans, you can't ask that question too much because you'll spoil the ceremony.
@KICDKenya And that's the violence of #competencybasedcurriculum. CBC fragments the human being into useless pieces that mean nothing on their own, and make you forget the bigger picture - the fun, human interaction, celebration, etc. And you see, for each question, you need an answer.
@KICDKenya In academic research, scholars use the term "governmentality" to explain this need to integrate absolute control through what should be natural human processes.

Think of drip torture. How does it work?
@KICDKenya Drip torture works by making the motion of a drop of water falling on you, which should happen in a micro-second, take 10 or 15 minutes. The torture is in extending the drip, so that just the waiting makes you go insane. The Kenyan state organizes our larger lives like that.
@KICDKenya The Kenyan state maintains power by turning what should be quick processes into torture for us by using bureaucracy and force to slow them down. @chris_mungai and @danaceda Dan Aceda referred to it as "death by a thousand cuts." theelephant.info/ideas/2019/04/…
@KICDKenya @chris_mungai @danaceda .@OkollaIX called the same phenomenon "low-grade terror." theelephant.info/reflections/20…
@KICDKenya @chris_mungai @danaceda @OkollaIX CBC works on the same principle. It's GoK's way of telling you that you can no longer jump out of spontaneity or expression. You must have a reason that coincides with for government purposes. It's an instinctual human act, but you need approval from government to do it.
@KICDKenya @chris_mungai @danaceda @OkollaIX So even love between parents and kids is being commodified. Eating food and putting on shoes is now recorded and sent to the teacher. The things families should do without instructions are now being guided by a teacher, who isnt competent, trained or paid to also police families.
@KICDKenya @chris_mungai @danaceda @OkollaIX It's kind of sick when you think of it. It's the robotification of human beings, but to cover it up, KICD and MoE are singing about "human potential" and "talent."
@KICDKenya @chris_mungai @danaceda @OkollaIX Accepting CBC as "talent" and fun is also a form of "emotional labor," a term developed by A. Hochschild, about where you are forced to suppress your instinctive feelings and fake different feelings to suit demands of others. It's the same labor required by #toxicworkspaces
@KICDKenya @chris_mungai @danaceda @OkollaIX So in that way, kids will truly be competent for the workplace, as we are being promised.

Anyway, bring your assignments (now that parents ared doing them) to #MashujaaCoversations next week, and we'll show you the problems with CBC.
