"Has your party moved too far to the left?" has become almost a robotic question the press asks Democrats (Republicans rarely if ever get asked "has your party moved too far to the right?" -- even as white nationalists flock, visibly and openly, into the GOP.)
The presumption is that wherever Republicans are -- no matter how extreme -- IS the center, and Democrats must veer toward that GOP mean, which happens to be a white Christian male working class or affluent/corporate mean. It's a media tic that really does skew the conversation.
And that media skew stays fixed on the GOP as representing the "center" even when poll after poll shows that Democratic ideas (everyone having healthcare, compassionate immigration policies, police reform, gun reform and on and on) ARE the median position in America. Why is that?
