It's like Democrats are locked on this train track labeled "healthcare is the key to the election," as if "healthcare" in 2018 was about who could propose something better than Obamacare rather than about saving Obamacare (and democracy) from Trump and his Republican hatchet men.
"Healthcare" in 2018 was a voter proxy for "stop Trump" or "reign Trump in." And 2020 is a re-elect, which means it's a referendum on Trump. The job is to explain why he shouldn't be re-elected, what he has done wrong and why you should be elected. Not sure they all see that.
Instead Dems are working out these genuine left-center healthcare policy differences that never went away during the Obamacare fight. Maybe it's good to do that early, but somehow it seems off the plot. Happy to be wrong.

"Has your party moved too far to the left?" has become almost a robotic question the press asks Democrats (Republicans rarely if ever get asked "has your party moved too far to the right?" -- even as white nationalists flock, visibly and openly, into the GOP.)
The presumption is that wherever Republicans are -- no matter how extreme -- IS the center, and Democrats must veer toward that GOP mean, which happens to be a white Christian male working class or affluent/corporate mean. It's a media tic that really does skew the conversation.
And that media skew stays fixed on the GOP as representing the "center" even when poll after poll shows that Democratic ideas (everyone having healthcare, compassionate immigration policies, police reform, gun reform and on and on) ARE the median position in America. Why is that?

I don't think policy is completely irrelevant but I overall am with Rick on this. Donald Trump is a 12 alarm fire and Democrats seem to be bickering over what color begonias to plant in the window sill. Just explain why Trump must not be re-elected and why you should be.
Every time they open their mouths Dems should be explaining those two things:

1. How Trump has messed things up (gave tax cuts to the rich and you paid, tariffs killed your biz, let foreigners help him cheat and will again, made us Putin's poodle etc)

2. Why/how you'll fix it.
Explain how he's unfit to be president and a danger to America ... how he committed obstruction and violated the law and shamed us by mistreating little kids at the border and enabled white nationalists.

And how you'll turn it around and bring back our honor.

Trump is recreating the New York of his grimy heyday -- the 1980s, where racial turf wars and even racist murders, mobsters, police abuse and intimidation of black people including teenage boys, blight and fear were everywhere -- especially in Brooklyn and his native Queens.
Donald Trump doesn't know much about America or the world. He knows his old New York, the Palm Beach that rejected him, and he knows his dreams of being an oligarch like the goons he sold condos to to keep from going under financially. He has not grown as a person in 40 years.
He is rebuilding his old world, down to trying to fool, bully and beg the press into playing along and shining him up like the tabloids and TV did back then. We are trapped in this hideous cycle that in the 1980s, meant a lot of violence. Heads up.

I am scheduled for my 3rd surgery since December on Thursday.
Please do me a favor and promise to call your reps and senators and tell them you support and need the #ACA/#Obamacare and they only have your vote if they reject Trump's efforts to kill it.

#Healthcare is a fundamental human right. In 2018, our legislature helped to ensure that right by expanding Medicaid. As of today, nearly 250K Virginians have enrolled in the program and now have access to quality healthcare.
This is what happens when we elect Democrats who are tenacious and unwilling to accept the status quo. But we still have work to do. We still have an opioid epidemic that is devastating communities and major improvements that need to be made to our mental health care system.
Last week, I was happy to visit one of our local facilities and have a great discussion with physicians and staff about these issues; we even tackled the benefits of community health.
