It's been 150 days since we presented the #MIBudget, which means the Michigan legislature hasn't presented a comprehensive budget solution in 150 days. Those in the legislature that are refusing to come to the table should hear how their choices are impacting this Michigander ⬇️
Jennifer, from Grand Blanc, has a four-year-old daughter that qualifies for the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP). She's currently #11 on the list, but the school can't determine availability until the #MIBudget is passed, meaning her daughter could be bumped off the list.
As a backup plan, Jennifer held a spot for her daughter at the only preschool in her area, which charges $800 per month. Jennifer is now going to have to come up with $800 per month to ensure her child is able to attend preschool.
If Jennifer’s daughter is still able to attend the school they had planned on, she is supposed to start school on August 26th. However, GSRP doesn’t know if it can even BEGIN school until the budget is passed.
Why haven't you heard stories like this before? Because we should have a #MIBudget right now, and in the past, we have.
GSRP is usually able to determine how many children they are able to enroll by July so that parents and kids can start to prepare for the next school year knowing their child’s enrollment is finalized.
The Michigan legislature’s inaction on the #MIBudget may end up costing Jennifer $800 a month just to make sure her daughter can go to school. This is unacceptable.
Jennifer, and you, deserve more from your state government.

Let's get it done.
