So make sure you utilize all of these when you’re a student!
1) Counselling services.
Universities usually offer free (or cheap) counselling services for students. Make use of them. Talk to someone if you're having issues. They can usually help you if you ask for it.
Have trouble to keep up with studying?
Have some learning difficulties?
Have physical / mental disability?
TALK TO SOMEONE. They can help plan something that works for you, such as:
(a) longer time for exams
(b) note-taker
(c) colored overlays
I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH!
Make full use of your uni's career services. Talk to someone EARLY in your undergrad career (first year) to plan out what you need to do to get to where you want to go.
Attend classes, workshops to develop your skills.
I've been talking and engaging with a lot of working professionals and God, you know how many students/graduates never utilize their universities' FREE career services?
You're missing out on a lot!
Why pay for someone to do your resume when you can get free help?
Your career advisors can help you prepare for job interviews, help read through your resume and cover letters, work on your jobsearch strategies and how to present yourself to potential employers.
USE THEM USE THEM USE THEM.
It's for your own good!
Usually universities have cheap/free facilities for students. Make full use of them. Stay fit. Stay healthy. Join gym classes or go on your own.
(This is one thing I regret not doing enough when I was in university)
Similar to counselling, but sometimes this is open for ANY issues whatsoever.
Ada problems with your partner but taktahu nak cakap dengan siapa?
Have family problems and you need help navigating it?
Financial issues and you need some support?
TALK TO THEM.
Tetiba rasa macam nak fail your classes and you need help to figure out the best strategy to pass?
Tetiba rasa nak tukar major / program?
Taktahu what you can do with your major?
TALK TO YOUR ADVISORS.
OMG THIS IS ALWAYS UNDERUTILIZED.
Seriously - use them. USE THEM. For someone who has worked in a university library for 4+ years, REALLY USE THEM!
They are there to support your learning and assignments, so make sure you go and find them!
Need help finding articles for your assignment? Go to the library.
Need help with referencing? Go to the library.
Need help with finding an old book that the library doesn't have? Go to the library - they can usually loan it from a different library for you.
If you're studying in the UK - utilize the SCONUL Access if your library is a part of it. You can get access to more than 100+ university library around the UK FOR FREE!
So if you need to work on that assignment while travelling during winter, you can still do so!
