There is currently a video trending from a right wing talking point factory called 'The Charlottesville Lie' that claims Donald Trump did not say there were "fine people on both sides" in Charlottesville. He did. Here's the full context:
The video features @CNN personality @CortesSteve. I'm curious why, @CNNPR, one of your personalities is teaming up with a right wing think tank to deliberately spread misinformation? Is this the kind of analysis @CNN pays for? Do you think THIS is the best form of the argument?
@CNN @CortesSteve @CNNPR Here is the complete transcript of the interview where the "Very Fine People" remark came from: politifact.com/truth-o-meter/…
@CNN @CortesSteve @CNNPR Just to be clear: Trump's argument is that there were "very fine people" standing alongside white supremacists, Klansman, neo-Confederates, neo-fascists and neo-Nazis shouting "you will not replace us" and "blood and soil".
@CNN @CortesSteve @CNNPR These protesters in Charlottesville showed up heavily armed across the street from a synagogue, and had threatened to burn the building down. Following the worship, they felt it necessary to exit the building through the rear. theatlantic.com/politics/archi…
@CNN @CortesSteve @CNNPR A black man was beaten in a parking garage by the far-right protesters. When it was caught on video and many of his assailants were charged in the attack, another protester filed charges against him. bbc.com/news/world-us-…
@CNN @CortesSteve @CNNPR Trump's argument is that, amid all this, there were some 'very fine people'. I don't know who the fuck he's talking about, do you?
@CNN @CortesSteve @CNNPR Remember that the 'Unite the Right' rally was organized Jason Kessler, who held the permits. Kessler is a white supremacist who once wrote "governments of the West are waging a campaign of slow extermination against their own core populations. It is white genocide.”
@CNN @CortesSteve @CNNPR The person who organized the rally was a white supremacist. The speakers at the Unite the Right rally were all various forms of white supremacists and other far-right groups. This wasn't a group where otherwise "fine people" were likely to hang out.
