@ellievhall Anyways, this tumblr post from five years ago nailed exactly what's happening right now and why the violent actions of radicalized men, regardless of the space they're communicating in, aren't lining up with a traditional left and right political spectrum.
This chart has haunted me for a while now. The user, cryinwilson, was able to see something happening with the way young men were using the internet and, for the most part, got it right.
A few tweaks:

-"Bronies" should be "various internet subcultures"
-"tfw no gf" should be "the men's rights movement"
-"9gag and 4chan will unite" should be "memes will travel beyond the platforms that birthed them"

Then you end up with what happened this weekend.

I confirmed with Utica law enforcement that a low-level influencer allegedly killed his "e-girl" girlfriend over the weekend and posted photos of her body to his Instagram story buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanha…
A Utica PD spokesperson said that as the suspect was being held by gunpoint, he was allegedly uploading photos of the 17-year-old victim's body to Instagram and Discord.
In a Discord channel, the suspect allegedly wrote that he carried out the attack to get back at "orbiters" that liked the victim.

"Anyways remember to subscribe to Pewdiepie," he wrote as he allegedly posted photos of her body.

With every update, tweak, and clarification that YouTube has pushed out in the last 48 hours, they drive more harassment and vitriol against LGBT creators.

They have turned what should have been a clear policy rollout into a fiasco. It's unacceptable.
YouTube refused to communicate anything clearly yesterday. They directed reporters to their Twitter feed where they publicly rolled out update after update, giving more ammunition to the angry far-right creators they didn't actually ban — only demonetized.
Their vague blog post said they'd be "removing hateful and supremacist content." By my count, less than five channels were actually removed (one briefly removed was a history teacher).

Instead, they incensed every bad actor on the platform and whipped them up into a frenzy.

I spent a good part of 2 years reporting on ISIS internet and how the group uses social media — in 2019 it's mind-boggling to me how well the coordinated cross-platform effort to remove them from the internet worked and how there hasn't been a similar one for white supremacists.
From a 2016 @gwupoe report on Twitter extremism: "The white nationalist datasets examined outperformed ISIS in most current metrics and many historical metrics. White nationalists and Nazis had substantially higher follower counts than ISIS supporters, and tweeted more often."
"The clear advantage enjoyed by white nationalists was attributable in part to the effects of aggressive suspensions of accounts associated with ISIS networks."
