Multiple smart tweets/threads today by smart women -- @ClaraJeffery @monaeltahawy many others -- pointing out how we avoid discussion of the toxic misogyny that underlays the motivations of so many mass shooters (incl. many with prior domestic violence history) in America. /1
Why is this important?

Because it *is* a connective motivator between many extreme ideologies that radicalize young men to kill.

As @ClaraJeffery mentioned, no one links this to gamergate, or what came out of it. But we should understand this evolution. /2
This also explains like toxic weirdos like Cernovich are so important in this mess -- they merchandise a jokey take on toxic masculinity while also pushing the conspiracies that help radicalize a certain target group. /3
So far the fringe losers haven't been held to account for what they do. Which is organized and purposeful. I don't care if they "believe" their crap or not -- they push it, people listen, some go bonkers. /4
Guys like Alex Jones are more in the spotlight, and have been sued for lies they have told. Lies in a spectrum of lies and conspiracy that have led to violent attacks and more deaths. /5
Culturally -- tho not always perfectly -- we take racism seriously. A history of racist statements and actions will disqualify you from many things if they are known.

The same is not true of violence against women and misogyny. The term "domestic violence" tells you that. /6
There's a fabric here that is transnational. And it deserves to be taken far far more seriously as an indicator of other pathologies. /7
Adding to earlier thread, with this from @MollyJongFast:

"Not talking about the misogyny that is underlying these crimes helps perpetuate that same misogyny. And that, in turn, helps perpetuate this horrific new culture of mass shootings by young men."/8
