Remember that we are in an age of extreme language: "No Brexit will mean the death of democracy"; "No Deal will mean a bombed-out economy"; "Leavers are thick fascists"; "Remainers are anti-democratic traitors"; "the EU is an intransigent bully"; "the EU is always right".....
The reality is always different and more nuanced.

Yet we are surprised whenever a Brexit-related study reveals such nuance. We're too busy Overton-window-pulling.
Meanwhile, I'm considering taking up a new interest outside Brexit that's less divisive e.g. "Road straightening in the 20th century" (creating all those little lay-bys). I've often wondered if there was once a specific budget to straighten roads.
