Thread - I have now read most of Dominic Cummings' blogs (for my sins) and think this: Probably the most important thing he wrote is not online any more, it was on his (now deleted) twitter. It was this exchange with @davidallengreen web.archive.org/web/2018092515…
@davidallengreen at least important as far as Brexit goes, which is what we're all thinking about. For Cummings, deal, no deal, EEA, EFTA - none of these things matter half as much as reforming the institutions that will enact whatever comes to pass
@davidallengreen among the 000s of words he writes, there is a deafening silence on post-Brexit practicalities. Partly I suspect keeping powder dry because he suspected he'd end up in a position to enact and didn't want to be a hostage to fortune
@davidallengreen The tweets to @davidallengreen explicitly state what's largely implicit throughout his blogs. Cummings cares rather more about the next 50 years than the next 5. No deal is not his preferred outcome, but being in a position to deliver no deal (and more besides) matters above all
@davidallengreen * likely not his preferred outcome.

He has lots of big, bold and positive ideas for government. But he seems to have no capacity for nuanced assessment of either the issues they seek to solve or what potential downsides there might be to them.
@davidallengreen He refuses to learn from successes that don't fit his narrative, he skirts over any benefits from gradual or micro change in institutions, and displays an incredibly superficial understanding of many governmental issues. His time at the DfE doesn't equal all "government"
@davidallengreen It is also what makes him an excellent campaigner (not the madcap genius who brought you the result, as he freely admits). In an "alternative branch of history", he would have been a very good People's Vote campaigner. No one has hit the mark better on the ERG's mistakes. /ends
@davidallengreen Here's my attempt to decode everything he has to say:

@davidallengreen (because not enough words have been written about him this week)
