Dressed as Misty from Pokémon at a convention, I met a boy who started happily telling me about Pokémon and the sounds they make. I was enjoying his enthusiasm when his mother apologized to me, letting me know he was autistic. “It’s okay me too! Never apologize for that!” I said. 
When people apologized for me growing up people said things like “she’s rude” or “she doesn’t know when to stop talking”. . .
Nobody knew I was #ActuallyAutistic so everyone assumed is should have known better. I didn’t.
We need to stop apologizing for the existence of autistic people. #ActuallyAutistic
