I shared a lot of the things I believe about remote work in this @gobelowtheline podcast episode with @jamesbeshara.

Here’s a thread with some of my favorite beliefs...
People love remote work because it gives them freedom and as humans we love freedom.

The cost of remote work for companies is that if they’re not careful they lose team accountability.

💸
What’s key for any company and what remote companies tend to do better is having central repositories of information and documenting everything.

🧠📝📑🗂🤓
When work gets complicated go back to basics.

This is more critical on remote/distributed teams because work happens primarily online.

We tend to think about changing people and tools to fix problems.

Instead start with process first in order to manage remote work chaos.
Freelancers have the same problems as remote workers.

You usually lack structure - it’s your job to figure it out.

You have to create your own structure and even your own personal systems to make sure you stay focused on getting stuff done.
Remote work is happening at the “edges” of business.

Today, it is an uncommon business practice to have a 100% distributed team.

@automattic @buffer @gitlab @invisionapp @zapier and others are starting to set an example for how to run distributed teams at scale.
