🙋🏽‍♂️1)Related but not related story: Yesterday evening, as sat in my car stuck in traffic over in Toluca Lake, saw a white cop from a few lanes over notice me.... And as he looked over in my direction, I knew what was about to happen next, because it happens ALL the fuckin time...
2) I then watched as he proceeded to slowly change lanes until his SUV was right up behind me... And as I lowered the volume of the music playing in my car (#Hamilton’s Yorktown - The World Turned Upside Down, for those wondering), making sure both hands were on the wheel...
3). And for several blocks, he kept his distance - probably while he ran my plates -waiting to see if I could give him any gawt damn reason to pull me over. 😒 But like Syrio Forel, I shook my head and said, “NOT TODAY.”
4) Finally, he gave up, and at the next light, he moved over into the left turn lane and turned his ass around heading off to harass someone else someplace else, I guess. 🤷🏽‍♂️
5) The frustrating part about all this is, these type of stories are so routine for so many of us. And as evidenced, most of the time, these type of stories don’t end well... Cuz while I knew I didn’t anything wrong, I also knew it didn’t matter.
Didn’t DO anything wrong. Gah, c’mon, Twitter! Is it that hard to give us a damn edit button???
6) Another sad part about this is, I wasn’t even mad about the shit. I was just tired. I already had a good/exciting day, and I all just wanted to do was go eat my favorite meal, and then go home and watch some of my favorite shows. Which I did.
7) But why wasn’t I mad? Cuz even before I sat down to eat, I had already put it out my mind cuz I know it will happen again, so why dwell on it? I know/understand the minute I step out of my home, I’m a potential target. Whether if I’m driving in my car, walking down the street-
8) - or shopping in some store, there will always be somebody who will look at me as if I’m “suspicious” or fit the description of someone “suspicious” they’re looking for...
9) THIS, btw, is NOT healthy thinking. And the fact that it is such a normal part of a lotta our lives is seriously fucked up.
10) One mo’ thing. And not that it matters, but I drive a fuckin Tesla. Ya know, the vehicle that’s basically a giant iPhone and LoJack no one would want to immediately steal?
11) And yet, it doesn’t matter, because there’s still a chance, no matter how far I’ve made it in my career, in my life, there are those out there who will only ever see me as a worthless minority who needs to be behind bars or dead. Again, seriously fucked up.
12) And I know and understand I'm one of the lucky ones... THIS TIME, since I've already reset my sign to: DAYS NOT BEING ACCOSTED/HARRASSED BY THE POLICE: 0 DAYS.
13) #FTFY - DAYS NOT BEING ACCOSTED/HARASSED/KILLED BY THE POLICE: 0 DAYS
