I proposed teaching a course titled “white nationalism” for next fall. I’m starting with the Declaration of Independence as a foundational WN doc. Any recommendations of primary texts paired with secondary readings, from the USA or beyond?

The course will more or less end with eco-fascism, from conspiracy theories of Great Replacement and “white genocide” to the “leaderless resistance” attacks (Unabomber, OKC, Norway, Christchurch, El Paso, etc.) and the global rise of right wing authoritarianism.
I'm definitely archiving this thread. Such amazing recommendations and lots for research to do. Pilamayaye to everyone for sharing! And I'll definitely share the syllabus—and how we're conceptualizing it as co-instructors—with ya'll here once we finish it.
What I'm reading here, what I've read elsewhere, is the USA, because of its foundations in white supremacy and counter-revolutionary anti-Black, anti-Indigenous, and xenophobic violence, makes its racial project explicitly anti-communist, another tenet of white nationalism.
Reading this thread and thinking about Cedric Robinson's phrase - "Western civilization is neither." - one might conclude: Western democracy is neither.

1/ The absurdity of debate abt whether or not contemporary child detentions are "concentration camps" gets to the heart of Indigenous genocide erasure. Like the word genocide, concentration camp is a new word. But both concepts are useful for understanding a longer structure.
2/ No doubt, perps of genocide don't call it genocide while they were doing it. They may not have always called them concentration camps either. The key factor is the *intent* to destroy a group in whole or in part. Removing children from a group qualifies as genocide, yes.
3/ The main difference between the Holocaust—and it's terrible horror—and U.S. crimes against Indigenous peoples, Japanese Americans, and migrants (many are Indigenous) is that one ended, the other didn't. The US just re-tools its technologies to target different groups.

Fully automated luxury communism is easier to imagine for some than the complete decolonization of North America and the restoration of stolen Native lands and lives. Yet, the latter future is more possible and humane than the former. Do we really need more settlers in space?
As a lifelong sci-fi fan, I’m sympathetic to fully automated luxury communism. But as an Indigenous person I’m suspicious of where exactly the materials to build such a world will come from. And that we need to redefine what development means for the poorest.
It’s 2019, as a child, I thought by now there’d be robots flying my flying car. Nope. Instead my people are still fighting poisonous oil pipelines so we can still drive our cars because that’s the only future this “technologically advanced” society has on offer.

1. There is an idea circulating Indian Country that Indigenous cultures align with capitalist ideology. Was that the thought going through our ancestors’ minds as the calvary came down on them to clear the land? “If we were only better entrepreneurs,” said no one.
2. That’s not to say Indigenous people can’t be capitalist—many are. But capitalism and the class system were neither inevitable nor natural. To paraphrase Marx: capital arrived to these lands dripping with blood and soil from head to toe.
3. Since inavasion, expropriation hasn’t stopped. And Indigenous nations and peoples themselves have become part of that system—whether as workers, the underclass, bosses, owners, or captains of finance. To say otherwise is to say we exist outside of history.

1. Despite the original intent of the Constitution and as expressed in the First Amendment, the Left has been successful in using the federal judiciary to remove religious expression from the public square.

Black nationalism exists. Of course unlike white nationalism, it's a defensive reaction to being disenfranchised from civil society, rather than a Manifest Destiny-fueled fever dream
The idea behind Black nationalism is "If we are not going to be treated as citizens in this nation then we need to carve out one for ourselves"

This is an entirely different mindset than "We need to be purified of X people because we don't like them."
Once again.

Black Nationalism is not like white nationalism

Black Pride is not like white pride

Black Conservatism is not like white conservatism

Black separatism is not like white separatism

Blackness is not like whiteness.

All these concepts have core differences.

I recently talked with graduate students in a seminar on #teaching practices in #HigherEducation about how to design and teach a course when you are not an expert on all of the content--which is really what most teaching is. Here are the main takeaways for those interested. 1/
In my experience, there are four main mistakes that novices often make when designing and teaching a course for the first time.

First, they approach the task by venturing off on their own into the wilderness of literature on all of the topics they don't know well. 2/
In other words, they prepare for course design as if it is a qualifying exam, attempting to become experts on all of the topics that the course will/should/must cover. 3/
