i'm going to refer people to this Entire Thread every time anyone in my life questions as to why i actively avoid doctors and try to handle as much of my own medication and health on my own

content warning: literally everything, it's a thread of hundreds of personal stories (mostly though not exclusively women) being ignored (at best) or treated maliciously by doctors, often ending in permanent injury or death

the only time in my life so far i've actually had a doctor even suggest something useful (as opposed to me having to convince them of something i already know) is when my psych, who is a func-med weirdo, identified my near-anemic ferritin levels

(and psychs. oh boy. psychs. i have heard like a grand total of two good experiences with psychs out of literally dozens my entire life. do good ones exist? sure. are all the openings with terrible ones? also often yes.)

also fucking love all the posts in the linked thread about people who were told to "just lose weight" because, like--

--okay, sure, you think they should lose weight. so figure out how to make them lose weight. oh wait, you can't? guess you're not a very good doctor huh

telling patients to "just lose weight" without actually providing them realistic tools to do so is the ultimate doctor cop-out, it's a way to get their $$$ while doing absolutely nothing to treat anyone's anything

like even if you believe weight is the problem (which it often isn't, but that's a separate matter), the point of doctors as a concept is to treat patients' health problems. if you're just going to tell people to find a way to fix their conditions themselves, why are you a doctor
