I'm not "justifying" Invictus Obi's fraud. I'm just letting you know that while Elizabeth Holmes and Bernie Madoff's fraud will have zero impact on ordinary Americans; Obi's fraud will have an impact on ordinary Nigerians.

And the reason why is a power asymmetry.
Power is extremely important - and there are two major dimensions of power;
1. Economic power
2. Military power

If you have a $1 trillion economy, people will think twice before imposing restrictions on your bank accounts - no matter the justification.
If you are doing about $400 billion GDP, and your economy is barely growing (with a population about 140 million), nobody will respect you.

Anyone who lives in Africa knows that DSTV dominates subscription TV, but DSTV is beyond the reach of most Africans (too expensive).

What Beijing did through StarTimes TV, is make subscription TV more accessible. A smart move.
There's a common thread here - Chinese business people interact with the African market on the ground level - and identify & exploit opportunities. From C-Way Water to Transsion (Tecno, Infinix, Itel, Boomplay, Synix), it is the same thing. Now O-Pay is coming.
The US response to all this tends to be panicked - and totally off point like "increasing military to military exchanges between the US & Africa".

No, US business people are simply not desperate enough to explore the African market. They can make more money at home.

Apple isn't in China due to low wages. Monthly wages in Shenzhen, China are now close to wages in some Eastern European nations. Wages in Vietnam, Philippines etc are a bargain in comparison.

Apple is in China because of supply chains, skilled workers & a huge domestic market.
Even if Nigeria had competent leaders (we don't) and our economic policies were sound (they aren't). It still would be difficult to prosper in this geopolitical context. When Lee Kuan Yew began his Singapore journey, China wasn't integrated into the global economy. They are today
Nigeria has missed many opportunities to reform its economy and compete globally. As recently as the 1980s, we had some of the best universities in Africa, so we could compete on skilled manpower. Today we neither have skilled manpower nor infrastructure, so how do we compete?

Early last century, there was a young lad from the British colony of Nigeria, who just finished secondary school. He wanted to be more than a clerk or a policeman, so he wrote to a historically Black college in the US. He was accepted, but he had to find his way to the US.
There was a snag, he didn't know how to get there - so he first tried to get there as stow away. Short story, he succeeded. His name was Nnamdi Azikiwe, he attended Lincoln University and he was instrumental to bringing other heavy weights like Kwame Nkrumah there.
Zik wasn't the only African who attended a HBCU, others like members of the Ethiopian Royal family did. The bonds between Africa's intellectual elite and the African Diaspora were strong - and the Civil Rights and the Independence Struggle were considered the same struggle

For YEARS many backers have basically gamed the very system that CIG used to scam them out of money, under the guise of, you know, making a game.

One of those things is called Lifetime Insurance (or LTI). With no game, nobody knows IF/HOW it would work.

Instead, what you see is media pivot from "she proved Bernie was robbed" to "The Democrats are killing each other". Always attack Democrats.
Most of us were focused on Trump until Brazile set fire to our camp. When we fact check to put the fire out, we get attacked for that too.
