Apple isn't in China due to low wages. Monthly wages in Shenzhen, China are now close to wages in some Eastern European nations. Wages in Vietnam, Philippines etc are a bargain in comparison.

Apple is in China because of supply chains, skilled workers & a huge domestic market.
Even if Nigeria had competent leaders (we don't) and our economic policies were sound (they aren't). It still would be difficult to prosper in this geopolitical context. When Lee Kuan Yew began his Singapore journey, China wasn't integrated into the global economy. They are today
Nigeria has missed many opportunities to reform its economy and compete globally. As recently as the 1980s, we had some of the best universities in Africa, so we could compete on skilled manpower. Today we neither have skilled manpower nor infrastructure, so how do we compete?

Early last century, there was a young lad from the British colony of Nigeria, who just finished secondary school. He wanted to be more than a clerk or a policeman, so he wrote to a historically Black college in the US. He was accepted, but he had to find his way to the US.
There was a snag, he didn't know how to get there - so he first tried to get there as stow away. Short story, he succeeded. His name was Nnamdi Azikiwe, he attended Lincoln University and he was instrumental to bringing other heavy weights like Kwame Nkrumah there.
Zik wasn't the only African who attended a HBCU, others like members of the Ethiopian Royal family did. The bonds between Africa's intellectual elite and the African Diaspora were strong - and the Civil Rights and the Independence Struggle were considered the same struggle

Trump plans to deport 11 million illegal immigrants, but is constrained by the law.

Africans are worse.

Two years ago, Arewa Youth issued a "quit notice" to Igbos in the North. Nigerians and Ghanaians have a competitive sport of deporting/making life difficult for each other.
Idi Amin deported Ugandans of South Asian origin. Black South Africans periodically lynch Nigerians, Somalians, Mozambicans, Zimbabweans - or any non-white "African" (they obviously don't consider themselves as "African", as they talk about "traveling to Africa").
A foreign economist was pondering over "labor mobility" in Nigeria. If your ethnic group was issued a "quit notice" two years ago, would be in a hurry to relocate outside your comfort region in Nigeria?

If you spend your life reading only the Harvard Business Review, you'd think that only the private sector drives innovation.
Many of us think Elon Musk created Tesla out of sheer grit and his personal genius, or that the Shale Revolution is a product of only "capitalism"; both owe their success to generous grants, subsidies and smart policies from the Department of Energy.
Before you talk about the US and "capitalism", you need to understand how the US works. Every serious nation has an industrial policy (the market does not perform magic - for e.g., the market prefers to finance porn websites with quick returns to funding semiconductor research).

Honda, Audi, & Renault teamed up w/ #China to offer China's oppressive surveillance AI in their cars, which they said will be available in "local" vehicles. Looks like its only in China right now, but you can bet they'll want to expand.

I'm rethinking ever buying Honda again.
This was done in partnership with Alibaba, whose CEO is a member of the Chinese communist party.

Of course this NYT article is shilling FOR communism on behalf of China, but they admitted that Jack Ma, Alibaba's CEO is a member of the communist party.

For more than two hours on Thursday, June 6, a large chunk of European mobile traffic was rerouted through the infrastructure of China Telecom, China's third-largest telco and internet service provider (ISP).
The incident occurred because of a BGP route leak at Swiss data center colocation company Safe Host, which accidentally leaked over 70,000 routes from its internal routing table to the Chinese ISP.
