Good morning from Portland!

I've got myself a Voodoo doughnut, a plaid shirt and a gas mask, so I can't be more ready for the day ahead.

Follow along for what I'm extremely sure will be a fruitful series of thoughtful discussions and consensus-building.
The main far-right event is 2 hours away, but I've already encountered a half-dozen people from the Three Percenters militia group. They have helmets and body armor.

One says they are here to "protect" people. Another has a visible pocket knife and pepper spray.
The Antifa crowd is also prepared
The cops have already confiscated some flag poles and some shields
The far-right crowd had an early dearth of Q proponents, but that has been rectified
The groups are meeting... Getting intense. "Go home Nazis" is the chant
The cops have established a barrier that is not between the groups (???)
There is full face-to-face confrontation here while cops watch from a useless barrier they created
Someone has arrived hiding a baseball bat
The confrontation has de-escalated, and most of the far-right members have moved to the other side of the police barricade, so now there is a large space between.
One person being arrested.
The Proud Boys group is heading across a bridge to the other side of the river. The Antifa crowd can't follow, so they are watching from afar and semi-celebrating with a "Whose streets? Our streets" chant.
There was a brief scuffle, but things de-escalated again on their own. No cops around
While most of the right-wingers went across the bridge, the Three Percenters militia folks are still on the Antifa side with no cops around.
Another tense confrontation, but cops moved in just in time
A milkshake (?) has been thrown
The biggest clash I've seen so far. This one appears to have been between cops and the Antifa crowd. An officer shoved me in the ribs with a baton as well.
Another tense clash between Antifa and police on the east side of the river. One person arrested. An officer threatened to shoot him if he didn't get on his knees.
Another arrest
A large crowd has been following Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson through the streets, chanting "Go home Nazis."

Gibson eventually departed the scene after getting into a waiting Subaru Forester, which seems like an appropriate conclusion for this Portland event.
Another arrest. Police are quite aggressively trying to keep pedestrians on sidewalks. Crowd is chanting: "A-C-A-B. All Cops Are Bastards."
Another person arrested, now being loaded into an ambulance.
And... Scene.
Just when you think it's over, someone comes through to celebrate Portland's deep heritage as part of the Confederacy
