Today , a mother to one of my Ugandan friends who studies around here called me . She was in so much pain , she cried on the phone for hours , she told me she hasn't eaten for days because she has not been in contact with her son.
Her son came here to do Political Science 3 years ago and is supposed to graduate this month . She almost fainted when I revealed to her that her son hasn't been seen anywhere near class for the last 2 years . He ONLY did 1st year of campus . She cried so bitterly , she wept .

When ICWA, the Indian Child Welfare Act, was created 1/3 of all Native children had been adopted out of their tribe & were raised by White families. ICWA says when a Native child is up for adoption family members, tribal members or Native homes are prioritized for placement
Even with ICWA in place Native kids are disproportionately separated from their families, tribes and culture. Today, over half of US states are out of compliance.

My whole life, I was told I asked too many questions. My mum would encourage me to ask but teachers and neighbours would consistently shut me up when she wasn’t there. So, I toned it down and simply HOPED that what I thought things were, were what they really are.

Examples:
1. If I had asked my former boss to explain to me why I wasn’t getting my pension statements and Tax reports, I would have known sooner from his response that he lacked integrity and empathy.

Instead, I HOPED he would see how hard I worked and not cheat me that way. I goofed!
