2/8 We surveyed, 1,225 Republican and Democratic Twitter users about their views on social policies. One week later, we offered them money to follow a Twitter account which they were told would tweet 24 times each day for one month. They were not told what the bots would tweet.
3/8 The Twitter account gradually began tweeting messages from politicians, media organizations, and advocacy groups with opposing political views. We tracked whether people paid attention by asking them questions about these messages.

Been hoping to do the MKO Abiola/June 12 thread as promised before now but events are sometimes beyond one’s control. Seeing as tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of that date, I’m sure it is definitely a good time to do it.

And so, here goes: a Thread on MKO Abiola and June 12.
It is difficult to separate MKO Abiola from the story of June 12 and the June 12 struggle because as Gani pointed out back then, Abiola was the symbol of the mandate of Nigerians and his imprisonment became the rallying point of the struggle.

And MKO Abiola was a complicated man
Even more interesting, the June 12 story itself is a most complicated one with many sides but mainly two - the political and the ethnic; and two other ones - the activism around it and on a lesser scale, the family involvement.

The common thread though is Abiola himself.

55 years ago this week, thousands of brave children in Birmingham, AL marched, were injured and jailed in a weeklong series of anti-segregation actions known as the #ChildrensCrusade. al.com/news/birmingha…
Today, many of those original 1963 foot soldiers are back in Birmingham to march again.
These children’s marches were part of a larger campaign lead by civil rights leader James Bevel to highlight the integration efforts in Birmingham.
